CarpoolAssist Launches School Admin Panel

We are very excited to announce our next milestone. Today CarpoolAssist launched “Admin Panel for Schools”, one of much needed platform by schools. So far schools did not have any visibility into their school’s data. Now schools will be able to view:

1. List of all the users of their school.
2. See the users of their school on map.
3. Sort this list based on city.
4. Map all the users of a particular city.
5. See all the pools that have been formed by schools parents i.e. which parents are part of which pool.
6. See all the poolers of the pool on the map as well.
7. Also check who are the potential carpool partners of a particular parent.
8. See all their locations on the map as well.
9. You can email that information to that particular parent as well.

We are expecting that this feature will facilitate formation of a lot more carpools. And schools, parents and students community will benefit with the reduced traffic around the schools.

Greetings to German-American International School (GAIS)

Prospering in diversity and thriving with education, the establishment of the German American International School (GAIS), Menlo Park, CA has been a great opportune choice of education within the Bay Area ever since the 1980s!

GAIS was established in the 1980s and opened its doors to students in the year of 1988. Being a school of not only the English language, it has prospered through throughout the Bay Area giving the absolute top of the line education for their students and parents that attend GAIS. They stand out amongst other schools within the Bay Area simply because of both their diversity in culture and educational goals/tactics. This international school stands out amongst Bay Area region because they work alongside International Baccalaureate Organization , which brings several types of tests and academic aspects of certain subjects for their students in order for them to receive an above average education.

GAIS is an international school that provides classes from Preschool up to 8th grade. With this wide range of students ages and different academic curriculum, it is essential for not only students to work alongside teachers, but also for parents to become more involved with the daily school activities. Many parents have become greatly involved in the support and ongoing success that the school brings upon to the Bay Area region.

With these great goals and magnificent ideas as a very well distinguished international school, it is crucial for them to obtain the necessary obligation for students and parents to become less worried about the daily commutes to and from school. By joining the carpool society, it will provide for a better way to navigate and communicate for certain days to school with other families. Not only will children become much more involved with cooperation with others from their same schools, but the parents could also have one less thing to stress out about due to time inflictions.

All in all, the involvement that GAIS has provided throughout this past decade has become a great advantage to their students with the ongoing successful rises in academic learning and a diverse environment. By embracing a carpool system, they will not only potentially increase their student population, but will also gain the respect of the City of Menlo Park and San Mateo county that is putting a lot of pressures on it’s schools to reduce traffic around them.

We all at CarpoolAssist give a warm welcome to the German-American International
School (GAIS)! Welcome Aboard!

Welcome Golden Valley Charter School of Sacramento!

Golden Valley Charter School located in Orangevale, a suburb of Sacramento, has recently joined our large family of carpool-favoring schools. As a K-8 public charter school inspired by Waldorf education, the shared vision of Golden Valley is “…is that each student becomes a self-directed life-long learner with the support of a community of peers, teachers and parents.” Golden Valley began its journey in 1998 serving just over 40 children and their families, and now the school has grown to over 400 kindergarten through eighth grade students. As the student population continues to grow and more and more families become interested in enrolling their children here, it has become essential to focus on carpooling as a way to “go green,” create community and reduce traffic in the neighborhood. Most parents drive their children to the school (some from far distances), so carpooling is an obvious solution. Carpooling gives families the opportunity to share the responsibility of driving children to and from school every day and helps the school focus on the primary goal of educating all students. Together with Carpool Assist, the Golden Valley community will come closer to the shared goal of making this K-8 public charter school a safer, greener campus!

We convey our sincere thanks to Holly Holt from Garden Valley Charter School for reviewing and editing this article.

Carpool: Which is which?

As many younger children and some adults have mixed meanings for the term carpool, there are some pretty funny extents as to what how some people actually interpret the word. For one particular Kindergartener, her experience with a carpool involved a garden hose and her dad’s car.

Last year in August, a Kindergartener, named Mary Elizabeth age 5, was exceedingly excited to attend her first day of school as a kindergartener. Her parents were both excited as well. She woke up sharp at exactly 7:30am and got dressed, finished breakfast, and put on her shoes and jacket at 7:45am! Mary, however, did not know that her kindergarten class did not start until 8:45am! Her parents began to giggle and caress Mary within their arms. Mary was slightly disappointed, but she had an extra hour of play time since she had already finished getting ready!

As of the previous night, she had remembered that her parents told her that they were going to also pick up another kindergartener within their neighborhood to form a “carpool”. Mary, at first, was a bit amazed and surprised that her parents wanted to have a car-pool with another kid. Since she had approximately an hour to spend, she decided to help her parents prepare the “car-pool” they were going to create. As she walked outside with her mother’s permission, she quickly grabbed the garden hose and opened the car windows.

Her mother, slightly confused, went to Mary’s father and said: “Kids are so funny! Mary says she wanted to help you with your carpool!”

Mary’s father just laughed.
What Mary’s parents didn’t know was that Mary was not thinking of the same type of carpool they themselves had in mind. Mary was about to fill the car up with water until the interior of the car was full of water to be able to swim in. Mary had visualized a carpool to be a pool within a car!

As time was creeping closer and closer to 8:45am, Mary’s father quickly ran out to start the car and pick up the other kindergartner. To his surprise, the car was full of water!

He shouted: “WHAT HAPPENED!?”

Mary quickly went up to her father and said: “I helped you fill up the car with water so we can have that carpool with the other kindergartener! I’m ready with my floaties and swim tube!”

Both of Mary’s parents began to laugh hysterically! They were not at all mad with Mary. Although they had their car water down, they were still able to use their second car to bring them both to school!

All in all, having a carpool can sometimes be a misconception to some people, however, the benefits and laughters that come with it are exceptionally advantageous rewards! Let’s continue to keep the world clean and happy! Let’s go Carpool!

Welcoming: Henderson Hammock Charter School & Imagine School of Town Center

As more and more schools are growing in student population, it is a crucial necessity for carpool groups to prevail. The Fall season is just around the corner and with that we would like to welcome two new schools both located in Florida: Henderson Hammock Charter School in Tampa, Florida and Imagine School of Town Center in Palm Coast, Florida. Both of these Florida schools provide education from Kindergarten to the 8th grade. As a result of this wide range of grade levels, there is a exhilarating goal to provide the best education possible for all their uprising students.

These two schools have set up challenging yet efficient work areas for all their students to succeed and strive towards their goal in later years. It is essential for such a school to adhere to their aim for a successful year for all grade levels. Not only do they provide an outstanding educational program, but they also provide an eccentric tuition free policy where everyone is accounted for without the busy hassle with money. With these major issues sorted out, another problem still awaits; larger populations call for more traffic within the morning school drop-off and after school pick-up routines. As a result, both Henderson Hammock Charter School & Imagine School of Town Center have teamed up with our company to help out with their growing population. With more parents beginning to carpool their students to school, not only will traffic in the mornings and afternoons be significantly reduced, but it would also call for more connectivity between parents and student-student interactions. Carpooling groups are also the ideal way to provide the school with a safer assurance that all students would arrive on time rather than having multiple individual students appear late to class.

With this new system for a carpooling experience, not only will the schools be able to continue focusing on their eccentric educational system, but it would also allow more opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities and programs. Let’s all give a warm welcome to Henderson Hammock Charter School & Imagine School of Town Center of Florida!

3 Reasons Students Should Carpool in College

Your parents and your friends’ parents may have alternated carpooling duties to drive you and your friends to school (and other events like soccer practice) when all of you were much younger, but its’ definitely an idea you should start up again once your start your first semester in college. Organizing a carpooling system with fellow classmates can provide an array of advantages, especially for those who live off campus—trust me, as a recent college graduate I would know. That said, to learn all the firsthand benefits that carpooling can provide in college so that you (or your child) can organize a carpooling system, continue reading below.

Easy Route to School

When I was a college student getting to class on time was a bit of a hassle. I owned my own vehicle, but parking on campus was a complete nightmare—the lots were almost always full and I was forced to lap around the block for 30 minutes before something became available. By that time, I missed half of my professor’s lecture. Frustrated, I tried the next best option: the bus.

The bus was great because I didn’t have to worry about parking, but unfortunately it was just too slow. The bus made about 12 pit stops before it finally reached campus. Not only did it take what felt like forever to get to campus, but it took an eternity to get home. A few neighbors who relatively had the same school schedule as me finally came up with the bright idea to carpool three days out of the week. Parking on campus was still rough at times, but if one of us had class at 8 a.m. and the driver at 9:00 a.m., the 8 a.m.’er had the opportunity to just walk to class while the driver looped around for a bit to finding parking. Both managed to make it class on time.

It’s Eco Friendly And Cost Effective

Carpooling is also great because it reduces gas emissions that are released into the atmosphere. It’s a great way to lower your carbon footprint almost effortlessly. It’s also cost effective. You can save your gas if you choose to switch off carpooling duties and end up using less gas money; or your carpooling friends can pitch in for gas which still helps you save. My friends liked to carpool to class, but it was also convenient if we wanted to travel somewhere that was somewhat a bit of a drive—like the school-affiliated boat parties on the lake or the bookstore across town.

It’s Responsible

Last but not least, carpools are extremely useful (and the safest way) to enjoy an evening out on the town. Again, parking on a college campus is a hassle but can be even more difficult in the evening—just around the time campus parties take place. It’s easier for one vehicle to find parking than four. Not to mention, it’s the safest way to “party”—the driver should be the automatic “DD” to ensure everyone’s safety. Your group can alternate who is the designated driver each time, but someone needs to be in charge.

CarpoolAssist enters “Earth Zone” of Cupertino Fall Festival

CarpoolAssist Booth in Cupertino Fall Festival

CarpoolAssist Booth in Cupertino Fall Festival, Cupertino, 09/22/2012

It has been one of our goals since the writing of our business plan almost 3 years back to setup a booth for CarpoolAssist in different Cupertino Festivals. Today that goal became reality and it was a proud moment for us. We were invited by Cupertino City to setup a CarpoolAssist Booth in Cupertino Fall Festival as the city wants to promote all kinds of green initiative, specially knowing the CarpoolAssist was Cupertino based company. Cupertino City had a Green Theme called Earth Zone that was designated to all green initiatives started in cupertino city and the City invited us to setup the booth in the Earth Zone. Another good thing was that our booth was assigned a very strategic location and it surely must have helped the City to reach its goal of going green.

Our booth was a great success as we had around 110 visitors who visited our booth and showed interest. Around 50% of these people were looking for a carpooling solution either for their kids’ school or for work. It felt very great to know that people are looking for a solution exactly like this and they were really happy to know that a solution like this exists. Many people asked a common question if our company only catered to carpooling needs of only Cupertino city. CarpoolAssist is an innovative web portal that connects people to setup carpools to work, school and special events all around USA. A lot of schools in NC, SC, CA and GA are using our system successfully to enable parents to carpool to school and lot of people are using the system for carpools to work. Our next goal is to invite event organizers to start promoting CarpoolAssist’s Events page so that we can help our environment by reducing traffic to the events and make this earth a better place to live for next generations to come.
